Handpainted abstract designs on silk

The varieties of textures and finish of silk fabrics are a wonderful discovery.
Combining silk textures with a love of abstracted designs I arrived at the name of Annisilk (anysilk) Art.

 

Preparation of fabric lengths. The garments are made from seedy silk. Which has a lovely textured finish and washes extremely well, and a lovely soft feel on the skin. Each length is cut and preshrunk prior painting.

All lengths are individually painted. Occasionally a design is closely repeated but not exactly-variables of texture, humidity conditions and the amount of dye on brushes influence the outcome.

Colours for the pieces are selected according to
*complimentary to each other
*seasonal variations
*landscape inspirations

Painting and drying time is followed by making time. The garments are sewn by myself and a friend who is an experienced dressmaker. Care instructions are on the Silk approved label.

On display are some of the items in current stock.

Some may recognize the label from the days of when they were readily available from the Shop Front Gallery in North Sydney, and until recently The Old School House Wool Workshop in Gerringong.
